Throw Some D’s On That Blink- D.veloped

D.veloped is fun as shit. They are on the level of Girl Talk in terms of the skill they use to make their mashups. I always forget how hard it is to make great mash-ups because so many do it and so many are mediocre, but when you listen to people with real talent at it, it’s frankly fucking great.

Animal Tracks- Mountain Man

Mountain Man is like a female led, sparser Fleet Foxes. Most of their songs just include the voices of the three women, Molly Erin Sarle, Alexandra Sauser-Monnig, Amelia Randall Meath, who make up the band, with occasional instrumental support. It’s extremely beautiful music. It’s rare in music today to be reminded of the delicate beauty that just the human voice can make. I’m usually not a fan of overly beautiful voices, I have a hard time listening to most female vocalists because I end up getting bored, but their harmonies are so achingly wonderful.

A Mess…- Shabazz Palaces

Some of the coolest hip hop around. They’ve removed some of the triteness of hip hop and went somewhere far away and recorded this on the moon or something. It’s sick.

A Million Years- Alexander

Alexander is Alex Ebert’s solo project, the lead singer of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. This is more summer music, the entire album is fun and sweet. It’s got a lot of heart and it doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s hard to describe the entire album, much like Edward Sharpe. The sound is pretty different but it’s still got that jangly fun 60’s hippie thing going on.

Too Young to Burn- Sonny and the Sunsets

I am serious sucker for this revival of the 60’s west coast sound that is cropping up everywhere. I can’t help it, it’s fun, it’s nice to listen to, it’s great. Sonny and the Sunsets keep a reign on being too influenced by it, giving it a little modern polish. Go on a drive with the windows down through some fields or near the ocean playing this and tell me it didn’t make you feel good.

Blowin’ In The Wind- Bob Dylan

Well, it’s Bob Dylan’s 70th birthday, so might as well kick off with that. Bob Dylan is fantastic and I don’t think you can argue with that. I love these types of Bob Dylan song, sort of quiet and repetitive like a lullaby, but with those Bob Dylan lyrics that make you want to quietly contemplate things underneath a porch on a dusty road.
